GAME OF THRONES’ “THE MOUNTAIN” SET TO HAVE HIS STRONGMAN WORLD RECORD SMASHED

Hapthór Björnsson, aka “The Mountain” from TV’s Game of Thrones, and 3rd Strongest man in the World, has his Strongman Super Yoke world record up for grabs at next weeks Ultimate Strongman World Championship in Newcastle.

Hapthór currently holds the title for carrying 450kg across 20 metres in 19.6 seconds but Laurence Shahlaei, currently Europe’s Strongest Man, has set his sights on beating it at The Metro Radio Arena on 10th December in front of a live arena audience.

Next Saturday see’s 12 of the strongest men on the planet go head to head to be crowned the Ultimate Strongman World Champion, but it’s Shahlaei who is favourite to not only win the Super Yoke discipline, but smash the world record.

Shahlaei said “The Super Yoke has always been one of my best disciplines, and knowing the world record is up for grabs, I’ve been training extremely hard to make sure I’m in the best shape possible. The Yoke, as with all Strongman disciplines, can cause serious physical harm so all competitors need to be on top of their game”
Joining Laurence will be Eddie “The Beast” Hall, 6 time UK’s Strongest Man and the only man in history to deadlift 500kg, plus Zydrunas Savikas aka “Big Z”, 4 times World Strongest Man and considered by many as the greatest strongman of all time.

Designed to give fans a real close up of the action, this will be the first indoor arena world championship event to be staged in the UK

The World Championship title will be decided over five disciplines, including the legendary Atlas Stones, The Super Yoke, Monster Tyre Flip and fans favourite the Deadlift Challenge, where the much awaited showdown between world-record holder “The Beast” and “Big Z” is sure to bring the house down.
